General Vanier: Down the Mountain We Go!

Carmela Filippi General Vanier Daycare Educator

General Vanier Elementary School daycare technician, Maria Iacono, along with her daycare educators, parent volunteers and students, enjoyed a wonderful sunny pedagogical day at Mont. Avila on Monday, February 18, 2019. At the beginning of the morning, a few kindergarten students who had never been tubing were extremely frightened to go down the mountain, but after trying the slopes for the very first time, they were amused and continued non-stop for the entire day!

Our Grade 6 students were extremely helpful with the kindergarten students — they helped the little ones get onto the lifts and helped them down the mountain. Our younger students, ranging from kindergarten to Grade 3, were only allowed to use the slopes that were for tubing, but our older students, ranging from Grades 4 to 6, were allowed to go on the rafting slopes. Rafting consisted of approximately 7 students per raft. The students had a blast on the raft because it sped down the mountain really fast compared to the tubes, and they enjoyed sharing the same raft with their friends.

On the ride back to school, most of the students fell asleep on the bus, and slept from the moment we boarded to the moment we arrived back at General Vanier. The daycare educators that remained at school that morning prepared all the students and staff a nice warm cup of hot chocolate with a bag of delicious cookies. It was a beautiful and fun day, and it was wonderful to see the students with huge smiles on their faces.

Very lovely post. In Finland children can make reindeer rides!
