Green Club: Edible Art

Have you ever used cut up fruits and vegetables to create art? Well Ms. Shannon’s Green Club students did just that this past January and designed some delectable creations!

Based on an idea from Salad People by Mollie Katzen, students put together their favourite animals, landscape scenes, self portraits and more by using the variety of shapes, colours and textures they found in their fruits and vegetables.

While creating their art, Ms. Shannon and students discussed a few environmental themes related to their food art, such as:

  • Where do the fruits and vegetables come from, are they local or from far away?
  • How do fruits and vegetables grow and who helps them grow (like bees and other pollinators)?
  • When do fruits and vegetables grow, all at the same time of year?

From the smiles in these photos, Green Club students from Dalkeith, Gerald McShane, Michelangelo International, Nesbitt and Pierre Elliott Trudeau all had a great time!
