Parkdale: Hoop House

Can you spot the hoop house in the snow at Parkdale elementary?

Green Club students had to dig out their hoop house, or cold frame greenhouse, on Thursday, January 18, 2018 to check and see how their vegetables are doing growing in the winter! They couldn’t check under the tarp then or the following week as it was frozen!

This is B.A.S.E. Daycare’s first attempt at extending its winter crop season with hoop houses and there are definitely some challenges that can hopefully be worked on for next year!

Students are still enthusiastic that they will be able to harvest their plants in early February for a yummy winter salad. Next week the weather should be a bit warmer so they can check on their kale, chard and spinach.

You can read more about the hoop houses at Parkdale and St. Monica in the upcoming Touching B.A.S.E. newspaper!
