John Caboto B.A.S.E. Daycare: Comic Book Adventure Creation Power!

Jodi Schwartz, B.A.S.E. Curriculum Advisor

The John Caboto B.A.S.E. Daycare Comic Book Adventure program has recently wound down for the session. It took place after school on Tuesday afternoons with some of the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students.

Over the past weeks, the children created a story chart and characters with individual personalities, and brought out their creative sides. They learned about consistencies within their illustrations, how to put together a cohesive story, and how to implement morals within their collaborative creation. Students have also sketched drawings and coloured in the final copies.

In the final stages of the project, students transcribed the text of their story and added special effects into their computerized layout. This took place through use of the computer software “Comic Life 3” on Ms. Jodi’s computer attached to a SMART board in their school library.

We ended our session with a reading in front of the entire daycare, including staff! The children took a well-deserved bow, and Ms. Jodi was extremely proud of their work!
