St. Brendan: Creative Free Play

By Angela Crescenzi, Daycare Technician

We should remember to nourish creativity and free play in our daycares.

St. Brendan Daycare students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 have a great time in the morning using just paper, scissors, tape, markers and glue. They build  houses and use animals to create stories with them.

The girls from levels 4 to 6 love to choreograph dances and practice them in the morning using the Mac computer. They have performed for their fellow classmates on special occasions.

The younger boys love to play with Legos and they have built whole communities that we have kept on the windowsill for almost the whole year.

Our older boys love to create domino rallies and they have the patience to rebuild them if they are accidentally knocked down.

I enjoy watching the children’s faces as they preoccupy themselves with these creative activities.
